Tip #16 Eat Popcorn - It's a healthy, delicious whole grain!

Buy an Oil Based Popcorn Popper i.e. West Bend 82306 Stir Crazy 6-Quart Popcorn Popper, Black, Cost: approx. $30
Save a TON of money on snacks while eating healthier by stop buying potato chips and many other unhealthy, expensive chips and snacks. Replace your snacking with homemade popcorn! Make extra popcorn and put it in zip lock bags for “on the go” snacks.

I don’t recommend Air Poppers since nothing will stick to the popcorn, except butter, once it is cooked. I don’t ever add butter to my popcorn. There are many other options besides butter. Here’s how to get started. A large variety of popcorn recipes will be listed soon! In future tips I’ll talk more about how to buy Oil, Salt and Popcorn in BULK so you can save a LOT of money.

My Favorite Popcorn

Appliance you’ll need:
Oil Based Popcorn Popper (I have Stir Crazy Brand Oil Popcorn Popper)

1 large bowl
¾ c. Popcorn
1/8 c. Canola Oil
1 tsp. Sea Salt
1 tbsp. Nutritional Yeast Flakes (NOT the same kind of yeast used to make bread)

NOTE: I purchase Nutritional Yeast Flakes at Sunflower Market $7.99/lb in bulk, or Wild Oats, and Dave's Nutrition Store for around $11/lb in a can, which lasts a long time. It's very light and mild tasting. You can also check at any Wild Oats Health Store or other Health Stores.

Put Popcorn and oil into the popcorn popper.
Plug in the popper and wait for it to pop.
When it stops popping, dump all the popped corn into a large bowl.
While it is still hot and has some of the oil sticking to it, sprinkle popcorn lightly with Sea Salt and Nutritional Yeast Flakes.
Gently toss.
Our family has been eating this popcorn recipe for over 28 years and it remains one of our favorite nutritional, low fat snacks!

NOTE: This is NOT the same kind of yeast you use to make bread. Nutritional Yeast is VERY HIGH in B vitamins so besides getting fiber and great taste, you also get a LOT of B vitamins, which helps with stress. It is a TRUE "munchie" food that you can eat a lot of and not ever feel guilty! Don’t buy Brewer’s Yeast since it’s not the same either.

You can also make popcorn in a pan on the stove.
